Directing with AI
How to describe a scene so the AI Director gets it right, and what to do when it doesn't.
The AI Director reads your cast (names, descriptions, personalities, positions, animations and expressions), the backgrounds and sounds, and turns your description into beats. A deterministic engine then does the timing, footsteps, typing sounds and perspective, so the same script always plays the same way.
Describe it well
- Name characters the way the cast list does, or by position (“the lady on the left”).
- Give each character a short description and personality in the Cast panel. The AI uses them to pick the right person and to write lines that sound like them in every scene.
- Say the order of events and the ending: who arrives first, who leaves, whether it fades out.
- Ask for a length (“about two minutes”) and the pacing stretches to fit.
- Mention camera, weather, light or text effects only when you want them; the Director adds a few on its own, sparingly.
Other ways to direct
- Suggest a direction proposes three scenes you could make with the cast you have. Pick one and press Direct scene.
- Plan an episode writes a script for several scenes at once, can return to a location, and picks the transitions.
- Use your own AI assistant: Copy prompt gives you the full instructions with your cast; paste them into ChatGPT, Claude or another assistant, then paste its JSON reply back. It's checked before anything changes, and it's free and unlimited on every plan.
Enhance my prompt
Wrote a quick description? Press ✨ Enhance my prompt under the box. The AI rewrites it with your cast's names, a clear order of events and a little camera direction, keeps your story and any lines in quotes, and lists what it added. Undo puts your own words back. Enhancing doesn't use an AI direction; nothing changes in the scene until you press Direct scene.
If the result isn't right
- Use Adjust current with a short correction instead of starting over.
- Warnings under the prompt and on individual beats explain what the engine had to change (for example, a character who talks while completely hidden).
- You can always fix a beat by hand — see Edit beats by hand.
